Q. What is your style?
A. Our style is a blend of contemporary photojournalism and traditional photography. We believe in a storytelling approach to your day, which means capturing the many elements involved, including the location, details, vivid colors, emotions, surprise, fun, beauty and uniqueness of your wedding day. We don’t simply record who was there and what happened, but how people felt that day, how beautiful the whole experience was. Your album will be an editorial-style journal of this important celebration. We believe family portraits should be done quickly, so that you and your family may get back to experiencing your wedding day. Working in digital offers us maximum flexibility with your images. Any shot can be seen in color, black & white or sepia, depending on the mood of the photograph.

Q. What type of equipment do you use?
A. We work exclusively with the latest Canon EOS professional camera equipment. Because our style leans toward photojournalistic, we need to work with cameras that are fast enough to capture spontaneous moments as they happen. You will find that most photojournalists prefer to work with 35mm digital cameras, as medium format is simply too slow to capture the fast-paced environment of a wedding. We prefer to work with natural light as much as possible, and to use long lenses to capture the emotion from a distance. We also use fisheye and other specialized lenses to create cool shots of the location or groups.

Q. How many pictures do you take?
A. Because we work exclusively in digital, we don’t limit the number of images taken on your wedding day. This gives us the freedom to take as many shots as needed to get just the right expression. We edit these images in our studio, and you will be able to choose the best photographs to tell the story of your day.

Q. How far in advance are you booked?
A. Certain times of the year book out 12-18 months in advance. Also, particular dates are more popular than others. Summer and fall weekends tend to fill up quickly, so you will want to book your photographer as soon as possible. We photograph only a select number of weddings a year in order to maintain a high level of service and to give your wedding the attention it deserves. Please call us to check availability.

Q. Where are you located?
A. Our studio is based in Redwood City, centrally located to the many Bay Area locations we photograph at, including San Francisco, San Jose, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Campbell, Los Gatos, Fremont, Berkeley, Santa Cruz, Aptos, Burlingame, San Carlos, Walnut Creek, San Ramon, Napa, Monterey, Carmel, Yosemite, Tahoe, and all areas in-between. We are also available for destination weddings.

Q: What type of albums do you offer?
A. The clients we work with tend to have vastly different styles - ranging from eclectic to traditional. To ensure all tastes are represented. We offer a variety of quality custom-made albums, including:

Queensberry Matted Albums- these gorgeous albums are individually hand-crafted by artisans in New Zealand. Image mats are cut to the photographer’s specifications and all albums are made to order. The unique matting option allows for very dramatic and beautiful layouts. Cover materials include stunning leathers, fabrics, metals and woods, and can also include cover photographs or text. Albums are available in a range of unique sizes. Carrying cases are available.

Magazine Style Albums- Often referred to as storybook albums, coffee table book albums or flush mount albums, these contemporary albums offer a fresh approach to wedding photography. Magazine style albums are created as digitally designed pages and can incorporate color schemes, text and creative design and layout. Cover materials include stunning leathers, fabrics, metals and woods, and can also include cover photographs or text. Albums are available in a range of unique sizes, including the mini “purse” size. Carrying cases are available. Made by Queensberry.

Leather Craftsman Albums-These handmade albums are covered with high-quality leather and library-bound to withstand the test of time. A range of sizes and styles are available, including beautiful Fine Art Books (individual images mounted one to a page). These albums are made to order. Slipcases are available.

Q. Do you want me to provide you with a list of "must have" photographs?
A. As a photojournalistic wedding photographer, this approach doesn’t incorporate the many candid moments of your day. Each wedding is unique, and therefore a set checklist will not work. Some couples choose to incorporate cultural traditions such as tea ceremonies, getting married under a huppah, or “jumping the broom.” Other couples will incorporate special details into the ceremony or the reception. We like to discuss the day in detail with the bride and groom about two weeks prior to the wedding in order to plan for capturing these special moments and details. For example, knowing that you and your fiancé are wine lovers and took special care to choose the wine served at dinner, may result in a great picture of the wine bottle. We had one client whose mother had brought maple leaf cookies from Canada to the wedding reception, and knowing about this in advance allowed us to be able to take a special photo of these cookies for the couple.

Q. What about formals?
A. We work to get the portraits done as quickly and painlessly as possible. You may want to designate someone who is not part of the wedding party to gather people. Portraits are not precisely posed, but rather are done in a way that reflects the natural personalities of the people being photographed. We do not need a long list of “must have” shots, but will discuss with you what types of photographs you would like, and if there is anyone outside of the wedding party or immediate family that you would like included.

Q. How soon after the wedding can we see our wedding images?
A. We will schedule an appointment about four weeks after your honeymoon for you to come to the studio to view your images. We suggest that you bring your family members with you to see the images so they can share this experience with you, reliving your wedding day. At that time we will lay out your wedding album using our digital preview system. It will take an additional eight to ten weeks to deliver your completed wedding album.

Q. How should we dress for the engagement session?
A. It is important to carefully choose the outfits to be worn to the engagement shoot as this will impact the quality of your photographs. Solid colors work best, as patterns tend to distract the eye. Outfits should be coordinated to compliment one another, and matching colors is encouraged. Clothing should reflect the location chosen for the photographs, for example, beach shots should be done in casual clothing.

Q: What is the referral program?
A: Our business is based on referrals, and as a way of thanking you for bringing us business from your friends and family, we have a gift certificate program in place. Call us for more details!
